Happy Monday everyone!

I hope you're all having a great start to your week! Today in the fabulous world of translation, we are talking about…

Dr. James Hadley, a researcher in translation & translingual studies, recently wrote up a post on Talking Humanities about “how translation underpins everything we do in the 21st century”. How does a translator's personality show in his or her work? How does a translator's political, religious, or ideological views come out in their translations? These are all questions he is looking to tackle. Read more about his plans here [1]!

If you're just starting out in the translation industry, you may have heard people about talking CAT tools and TMs. No, these are tiny little furry creatures. CAT tools stands for “Computer Assisted Translation tools” and TM is “Translation Memory”. Now, Emma Goldsmith, a Spanish-into-English medical translator released a free (!) e-book [2] called “An Introduction to Translation Memory” so that everyone here can learn more about incorporating these tools into their freelance work. Learn more here [3]!

Skype's latest announcement features a “translation tool that can interpret live speech in real time, across a number languages.” Currently it is only available in preview form for English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Mandarin. But the question on everyone's mind is, does it really work? The good people at Quartz put it to the test! Click here [5] to watch what happened!
