Bilingual Education

Dual-language programs have been on the rise in the United States, but not without controversy surrounding them. Check out this great interview [2] that The Atlantic did with Teresa Chávez, the lead teacher for the Dual Language Immersion program at Little Canada Elementary in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They cover everything from why bilingual education is important to shaping teaching methods around different versions of the same language, and more!
Growing Up Translating

As a child of immigrants raised in New York City, I grew up acting as a translator for my parents and grandparents (& still fill this role in some instances today). But what else comes with the task of acting as your parents’ guide around their new home? Shanshan Wang gives us a peak into the lives of children as they become full-time translators for their families in an article entitled “Kids Serve As Translators For Their Parents Who Speak Little English [3]“.
Lost Languages Discovered

According to the Smithsonian, “American history has just been slightly rewritten.” Native Americans living in central Massachusetts previously believed to have spoken only one language were discovered to actually speak five!
