We’re excited to announce a new initiative we’re introducing at GV for 2018. This year, instead of focusing on numbers of posts and other quantitative measures, Global Voices staff members, including newsroom editors, section leaders and other core team members, will be organising our work around periodic goals.

Why are we doing this?
We’ve often put heavy emphasis on publishing targets as a way to measure success, but this often fails to capture other aspects of our work, such as community building and learning. We envision that organising our work around goals will:

What’s a goal?
A goal is something that a GV staff member proposes to works towards in concrete ways in support of GV’s mission. Goals will usually be formulated and pursued in close collaboration with fellow team members and regional communities. They could have to do with coverage, research, community building, partnerships, etc. Goals may also be based on collaborations between different regions or GV sections.

How often will goals be set?
Goal-setting will place four times a year, in three-month periods. Once goals are decided upon, Editors will present their plans in a blog post on the Community Blog, so that community members can review, comment and cheer them on.

GV Staff members will begin rolling out goal announcements on the Community blog starting this week. Stay tuned!
