Announcing Wikinews and Global Voices Lingua cooperation for supporting online Arabic content!

I'm happy to announce the cooperation between Wikinews and Global Voices Lingua to support online Arabic content.

The idea of the cooperation between Arabic Lingua and Arabic Wikinews started during WikiArabia 2017 in Cairo.

Wikinews is a Wikimedia project managed by a group of volunteers whose mission is to present reliable, unbiased and relevant news. The project started in 2004, with 4076 Arabic news posts published till the 1st of February, ranking Arabic at the 12th place among total 33 languages.

Global Voices Lingua is a project managed by an international team of volunteers, who translate what our editors and writers report on 167 countries in our entirely virtual non-profit newsroom, as well as working on translating Global Voices projects; AdvoxRising Voices and NewsFrames.

Since starting this cooperation, the ranking of Arabic Wikinews went up to the 10th place, thanks to importing 3682 Arabic Lingua posts via جار الله [Jarallah]'s bot. New imports will appear in Wikinews on a weekly basis.

Adding an additional copy in Wikinews will provide a new life to the post, based on the open editing nature of Wikinews. Arabic Lingua content will be available on Wikimedia platforms offline via ZIM file format, viewable in Kiwix.

Arabic Translation Managers and contributors will be supporting Arabic content on Wikipedia.

We are working to extend this cooperation to more languages! Stay tuned!
