RightsCon Tunis 2019 [1] is the 8th event in the RightsCon Summit Series. It’s one of the world’s leading conference on human rights in the digital age, with conversations and panels relevant and important around the world. We’re looking for volunteer translators who speak Arabic, French and Spanish to assist a number of translation efforts for Rightscon [1] on June 11–14 at Tunis.
Previously, Meedan [2] has collaborated with Global Voices Lingua [3], Access Now [4], and Localization Lab [5] to develop out the RightsCon Translation Lab.
During the live tweeting of the conference in 2017 that was held in Brussels, we translated 127 tweets to Arabic, 568 tweets to French and 286 to Spanish. [6] Some of the translators worked on translating to more than one language.
In 2018, kudos to our great translators, we translated 324 tweets into Spanish, 271 tweets into French, and 251 tweets into Arabic [7]. The Spanish team was led by Juan Arellano [8], the French team by Suzanne Lehn [9] and the Arabic team by Mohamed ElGohary [10], all from Global Voices.
Let’s keep it a tradition and celebrate our open source community of translators, bilingual and polyglot volunteers in 2019!
Volunteers will dedicate some of their time before the conference to get some training sessions on how to use the application, working with the Meedan [11] team to familiarize themselves with Bridge [12].
