On November 25-26, 2021, four members of the Global Voices community will be sharing their original poetry in Indigenous languages during the 2nd International Academic Forum “Sustainable Development of Indigenous Languages” to take place virtually and in-person in South Korea. The event is part of the lead-in activities for the upcoming International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032.
The participating poets are:
- Njeri Wangarĩ, GV's co-Regional Editor for Sub-Saharan Africa, who will be sharing poetry in the Gĩkũyũ language of Kenya.
- Alejandra Sasil Sánchez Chan, Coordinator of Rising Voices’ Language Digital Activism Fellowship Program, who will be sharing poetry in the Maayat’aan (Yucatec Maya) of Mexico.
- Miguel Angel Oxlaj Cúmez, participant in Rising Voices’ @ActLenguas [1] rotating Twitter account, who will be sharing poetry in the Maya Kaqchikel language of Guatemala.
- Kọ́lá Túbọ̀sún, participant in Rising Voices’ @DigiAfricanLang [2] rotating Twitter account, who will be sharing poetry in the Yorùbá language from Nigeria.
