At the end of 2022, Routledge [3] published the “Handbook of Regional Conflict Resolution Initiatives in the Global South” which was edited by Jeronimo Delgado-Caicedo. The book explores the relationship between a country’s involvement in conflict resolution initiatives and its positioning in the international system and is divided into six parts of which five parts feature chapters focusing on different regions of the world (The Middle East and North Africa, South and East Asia, Eastern Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa as well as Latin America).

Part lV (Eastern Europe) features the chapter “The Emergence of Azerbaijan as a Regional Power: Between Tensions and Neutrality” that has been authored by GVs Kelly Chaib de Mares [4] and her co-author Soraya Stella Caro-Vargas. Specifically, the chapter Kelly Chaib de Mares wrote introduces a geopolitical and geo-economic context in Azerbaijan for understanding neutrality and trilateral diplomacy as mechanisms to prevent regional conflicts at the time when the country escalated its armed conflict with Armenia in the Nagorny Karabakh region.
