Calling all GVers! Happening on March 7 and March 14 at 2 p.m. UTC. Register now for the second iteration of the “Narrative Spotter” training. See here what time it will be in your time zone.
Narratives are at the core of democracies, influencing public discourse and perceptions, making it critical for individuals to develop strong digital and media literacy skills.
The Narrative Spotter training equips Global Voices (GV) community members with essential digital and media literacy skills to critically analyze media content. Building on the Civic Media Observatory’s methodology and the work of Rising Voices, the program helps participants understand how narratives and counter-narratives shape public perception. These skills enable them to contribute to GV activities, such as research, writing, and informed media engagement in their daily lives.
The sessions will be held in English and will focus on two main components of two hours each:
- Media Ecosystem Mapping: Participants will learn to map the media landscape of their regions, identifying key media sources, themes, and entities of interest.
- Narrative Spotting: This session delves into the narratives emerging from the mapped media sources, enabling participants to identify biases, challenge assumptions, and fill knowledge gaps.
Narrative Spotter Overview
During the Narrative Spotter workshop, participants will engage in activities to analyze narratives and counter-narratives, enhancing critical thinking and media literacy while learning contextualization strategies to interpret information accurately. By completing the Narrative Spotter training, participants will:
- Develop critical thinking skills.
- Gain a deeper understanding of media ecosystems.
- Develop more autonomy in analyzing media content.
- Learn to identify biases and fill knowledge gaps.
