As part of Global Voices’ fundraising challenge campaign called “Behind the Story,” we will feature 30 contributors in 30 days. In this series, we ask each contributor about a particular story they have written and why working on it mattered to them. These reflections from these contributors remind us why it is important to ensure that the Global Voices Newsroom is sustainable.

In this insight, Sangita Swechcha from Nepal shares thoughts on why working on the story “How can Nepal's literary tradition make its mark on the global scene?” was especially meaningful.

The interview was conducted with Karen Van Drie, Executive Director of the Global Literature in Libraries Initiative (GLLI). As it was my first story for Global Voices — and explored an external perspective on Nepali literature from someone who had previously hosted Nepali Literature Month at GLLI (USA) — the piece was especially meaningful to me.

It was widely shared and warmly received within the Nepali literary community. Its publication in multiple languages, including Italian, Russian, Malagasy, Spanish, French, Esperanto, Greek, and Czech, made it even more valuable for promoting Nepali literature to a global readership.

Global Voices is a platform that provides a space for our community to share stories and perspectives about their community and issues they care about through the accompaniment of a supportive editorial team that assists each contributor to craft their stories.
