Calling All GVers: Share Your Skills and Expertise for GV Services

As you may know, Global Voices is supported by the efforts of our volunteer contributors, foundations, donors, and mission-related services.

Through GV Services, we will provide culturally sensitive translation, editorial adaptation, and regional research to international NGOs, civil society organisations, and media outlets.

When organisations hire us, they engage with the unparalleled on-the-ground expertise of our international, multilingual community of writers, translators, and human rights activists.

As requests for our mission-related services grow, we continue to update our talent roster for upcoming possible paid opportunities.

What we are looking for

We are seeking community members to express their interest if they have professional experience in:

  • Translation, localisation, and context checking: Going beyond literal translation, such as advising international organisations on appropriate, safe terminology to use in regional campaigns.
  • Editorial and copy-editing: Adapting complex global frameworks into accessible, locally resonant campaigns, like turning policy documents into engaging social media assets.
  • Research, strategic consulting, and mentorship: Serving as subject-matter experts on local digital ecosystems, human rights, and regional media landscapes. For instance, mapping media ecosystems ownership ahead of a regional election, or running digital safety training workshops for local NGOs.

Have a different skill? The form also includes a space for you to suggest additional services you believe our community is uniquely positioned to offer to clients.

The “Fair Trade” Model
GV Services operates on a strict “Fair Trade” model. If you take on a project, you are compensated at professional, ethical rates for your work. Any remaining funds are reinvested directly into GV, supporting our core mission to leverage the power of the internet to tell stories that build understanding across borders.

How to apply
If you would like to be considered for future paid opportunities, please take a few minutes to fill out our intake form: GV Services Talent Application Form, which includes submitting an updated CV.

To help us accurately map our capabilities, the form will ask for links to your portfolio or examples of your past work. It also includes optional questions about your typical rates, capacity, and preferred payment methods, which we are collecting strictly for market research and to build our internal pricing matrices.

Please view this form as an expression of interest to help us map our network's capacity.

Important note: Filling it out does not guarantee any immediate work, as assignments depend entirely on external client demand. Furthermore, paid GV Services contracts are kept strictly separate from your volunteer contributions to GV, which are stories and translations that you choose and feel compelled to share with the world. You will never be asked to perform commissioned work unpaid, which is work that the client requests.

Also, please note that while this roster helps us match talent to client needs, we always prioritise active GV volunteers when their skills align with a commissioned project.

If you have any questions about GV Services, your eligibility, or how the roster works, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you for everything you do to make this community so vital to the global conversation.
