What appeals to you most about the prospect of serving on the GV board?
What appeals to me most is the opportunity to contribute to an organization that genuinely values diverse voices and perspectives. Being part of the GV board means helping shape the strategic direction of a platform that promotes digital rights, citizen media, and global understanding.
I am particularly motivated by the chance to represent community perspectives at a higher level, ensuring transparency, inclusivity, and responsiveness in decision-making. It is an opportunity to move from contribution to impact.
What talents, skills, networks, and expertise can you offer Global Voices in your role as board representative?
I bring strong linguistic expertise, editorial judgment, and a deep understanding of localization and cross-cultural communication. Beyond technical skills, I offer a community-oriented mindset and the ability to listen, synthesize feedback, and translate it into actionable insights.
I also bring connections within translation and digital media communities, particularly in the Arabic-speaking world, which can help expand outreach and engagement. My analytical approach and adaptability allow me to contribute effectively to both strategic discussions and operational improvements.
As you look ahead to the next three years, what, in your opinion, should be GV’s overarching priorities as an organization?
GV should prioritize strengthening its role as a trusted source of independent, community-driven journalism, especially in regions where voices are underrepresented or restricted.
Additionally, investing in contributor support, training, and retention will be key to sustaining quality and diversity. Expanding digital reach through strategic partnerships and innovative formats is also essential. Finally, maintaining a strong stance on digital rights, freedom of expression, and ethical storytelling should remain at the core of GV’s mission.
What aspect of GV’s work interests you the most?
I am most interested in GV’s role in amplifying marginalized voices and making local stories accessible to global audiences. The combination of translation, journalism, and advocacy is particularly powerful.
The way GV connects communities through storytelling and highlights perspectives often overlooked by mainstream media aligns closely with my professional values and personal interests.
What would you like to get out of this board service experience, both professionally and personally?
Professionally, I hope to deepen my understanding of organizational governance, strategic planning, and decision-making within an international nonprofit context.
Personally, I look forward to building meaningful relationships with a diverse group of contributors and learning from their experiences. I also aim to grow as a leader and advocate for community-driven initiatives.
How will you fit board service into your personal and other professional work commitments?
I am committed to managing my time effectively to meet all board responsibilities, including attending meetings, reviewing materials, and engaging with the community.
I already work in a structured and deadline-driven environment, which allows me to plan ahead and allocate dedicated time for board duties. I view this role as a priority and will ensure consistent and active participation.
What methods would you use to engage and listen to the community in order to represent them effectively at board level?
I would prioritize open and consistent communication through GV platforms, including regular check-ins, feedback sessions, and informal discussions. Creating safe and accessible spaces for contributors to share their perspectives is essential.
I would also use surveys, one-on-one conversations, and group meetings to gather diverse viewpoints. My goal is to ensure that community voices are not only heard but meaningfully represented in board discussions.
