Prudence Nyamishana introduces herself:

I am a writer and podcaster from Uganda. I currently work with The East African Feminist Peace Network as the Community Outreach Coordinator. I have over 12 years of experience in strategic communications. I have been participating in GV as a writer since June 2013. I started because I needed to amplify Ugandan social, political, and human rights stories. I also joined because it is a space for a progressive global community.

All candidates in the 2026 board elections have been asked to answer the set of questions listed below. Feel free to ask Prudence additional questions in the comments area below this post!

What appeals to you most about the prospect of serving on the GV board?

Serving on the GV board will be an absolute honour. What appeals to me is the incredible community and the work of remaining a sane voice in a world that is going crazy. GV has remained steadfast, and beyond being a writer, I would like to serve as a board member.

What talents, skills, networks, and expertise can you offer Global Voices in your role as board representative?

I am a skilled writer and content creator. I have networks of writers and human rights defenders across Africa. I have networks within the donor community and with organisations which offer rapid-response funds for defenders at risk. My years of experience in communications and advocacy will be valuable as I serve on the Global Voices board as a representative.

As you look ahead to the next three years, what, in your opinion, should be GV’s overarching priorities as an organization?

The overarching priority should be to remain a platform that offers balanced news and credible information, regardless of the information chaos currently unfolding.

What aspect of GV’s work interests you the most?

The diverse community of writers and translators from around the world. The GV Bar [Whatsapp Group] is my place of sanity when the world feels like it is burning.

What would you like to get out of this board service experience, both professionally and personally?

For the past few years, I've avoided taking on huge responsibilities like this, but I'm stepping up because it is an opportunity to build skills for greater influence in my country and on my continent.

How will you fit board service into your personal and other professional work commitments?

While I am a busy mom with a full-time remote job, dedicating my time to GV won’t feel like work because I will be part of something bigger than me that is making an impact.

What methods would you use to engage and listen to the community in order to represent them effectively at board level?

Finding the community where they are on various GV forums through surveys, community meet-ups that listen to the needs of community members, or meet-ups where community members just have conversations about wellness, books or current affairs.
