III. POSTING GUIDELINES

Twitter

  • We try to tweet 30-40 times a day from @globalvoices
  • We ReTweet individual posts 3+, by rebranding it using different text, hashtags, quotes and or images.
  • Please leave at least 16 characters free for manual RTs.
  • Keep personal opinion out while tweeting from GV’s account.
  • Make sure you give a global perspective, and don’t RT localized content that our followers may not understand.
  • Don’t use more than 3 hashtags. Ideally just use 2, research shows over-hashtaging discourages clicking and RTing.
  • While live tweeting breaking news be vigilant about your sources – we don’t want to misreport in the heat of the moment.
  • Always make sure there is some optimized content left in our queue. If you publish everything while you are logged in, our account might be dormant for a few hours.
  • Please do not “publish or optimize” content that has been scheduled by other members of the team. You can always copy the tweet and edit it and optimize or publish.
  • Always respectfully reply to comments, and thank commenters who notice mistakes or errors, email the editor responsible for the content and cc me saharhghazi@gmail.com or alternatively fill out the GV edit request form.

Facebook

  • We try to post 6-12 posts a day on Facebook
  • Before adding a post or publishing through Social Flow  please check the queue, to see if the content isn’t already scheduled or optimized.
  • Keep the sharing text short and too the point, short quotes are quite popular on our account.
  • Do not repeat the headline by using it in the sharing text and the then again before the url link or if you are using  the link as an attachment.
  • Research shows sharing text that is emotional or inspiring gets shared, so please try to chose great emotional quotes or text when sharing GV posts.
  • Please include the short url when posting on Facebook.
  • If you are posting with a link preview, please edit the headline and take “. Global Voices out” and shorten the sharing text to 7 or 8 words, so it doesn’t get cut off in preview.
  • When posting with images, try to include image credit, especially if the photo is not in public domain.
  • Always respectfully reply to comments, and thank commenters who notice mistakes or errors. Follow up by emailing the editor responsible for the content and cc me saharhghazi@gmail.com; or alternatively fill out the GV edit request form.
  • We occasionally post non-GV content for breaking news situations, be vigilant about your sources in these cases.
  • When posting GV project content, Advox, Rising Voices or from our Lingua team, please tag their pages in the sharing text.
