Juliana Harsianti speaks as panelist at the IGF 2023 at session on Online Linguistic Gender Stereotypes

GV's Juliana Harsianti spoke as a panelist on a session at the Internet Governance Forum (IGF 2023) which took place in Kyoto (Japan) from October 8th to 12th this year.

Titled ‘Online Linguistic Gender Stereotypes’, the workshop aligns “with Theme 5 Global Digital Divides & Inclusion”, according to the forum's official description of the workshop, and it “focuses on the intersections of language, the Internet, and the gender digital divide”. The website, among other things, offers further insight into the panelists, the expected outcome of the workshop as well as key takeaways.

Harsianti reports that the panelists discussed the use of stereotypes of language in digital language which mostly affects women, girls and minority groups. According to Harsianti, the stereotyping is not only worsening the gender digital divide, but also discriminates in the middle of hype large language model apps.
